The teachers of the Art School kept the artworks of their students for many years - their first attempts to find their own way in the world of art. Андрей Солдатенко – необычайно продуктивный художник, вступающий в пору ранней зрелости. Он по-прежнему в процессе непрерывного поиска. На ранней стадии известную роль в его творческом становлении сыграло знакомство с лирическими полотнами проникновенного саратовского пейзажиста Евгения Дмитриевича Яли и общение с молодыми художниками его круга – Владимиром Коринем и Юрием Уманцом. То культивирование особой «погружённости» и неспешного, слегка отрешённого созерцания, которое свойственно этому мастеру и его талантливым последователям, в известной мере, присуще и Солдатенко. Генетически он восходит к этой традиции. Но стилевая доминанта его искусства определяется только в последние годы, и она существенно отличается от этих мастеров, ибо диктуется, прежде всего, собственным мироощущением. </div><div align="JUSTIFY" style="margin-bottom: 0cm; text-indent: 1.25cm;">В последнее десятилетие его постоянным советчиком и наставником стал талантливый живописец Заслуженный художник России Руслан Львович Лавриненко, стоящий особняком в плеяде старшего поколения саратовских пейзажистов. И личный его пример имел существенное значение и в человеческом, и в творческом самоопределении молодого мастера, в воспитании чувства ответственности за своё незаурядное дарование.</div><div align="JUSTIFY" style="margin-bottom: 0cm; text-indent: 1.25cm;">А. Солдатенко ушёл в свободное творчество в сложный период, когда в условиях затянувшегося формирования в стране художественного рынка, критерии художественности охотно приносились в жертву коммерции. Условия выживаемости художника и сохранности его таланта оказывались полярными друг другу. Требования рыночного спроса не менее жёсткие, чем требования выставкомов тоталитарной эпохи. Его эмоционально-эстетический опыт год от года растёт: оттачивая пластику и заботясь о выверенности цвета, он выходит на более высокий уровень, и есть надежда, что в условиях намечающегося посткризисного оживления, он сумеет выстоять, не отвлекаясь на работу коммерческого плана. Лучшие картины и этюды Андрея Солдатенко эмоционально убедительны и привлекают не внешней красивостью видов, а достигнутой гармонией целого, единством цветового и пластического решения. Чаще всего это лирическое обобщение самых простых, невыисканных специально мотивов поволжского пейзажа. Это село вниз от Саратова по течению Волги, расположенное не так уж далеко от знаменитой среди местных художников 1920-1930-х годов Щербаковки, где постоянно жил талантливый и опытный пейзажист Яков Вебер и где в летние месяцы отдыхали, охотились, рыбачили и охотно писали живописные окрестности многие молодые саратовские художники той поры. Близость мотивов невольно рождает известное сходство образных решений.</div><div align="JUSTIFY" style="margin-bottom: 0cm; text-indent: 1.25cm;">Лучшие работы этого живописца те, где ощущение конкретного уголка волжской природы выступает отчасти уже трансформированным его персональным видением. И это закономерно. Когда у замечательного петербургского художника-педагога О. А. Сидлина спросили: «Как делать – с натуры или выдумывая?» - Он искромётно ответил: «С натуры выдумывать!» Естественно, что речь шла не о «выдумывании» в угоду нетребовательному вкусу, а о раскованности творческого воображения художника, свободно преображающего визуальную данность любого найденного им мотива. В общем потоке его творчества сочетается почти несочетаемое – достаточно навязчивая изобразительность и почти абстракция. Сейчас эти тенденции существуют раздельно, развиваются пока параллельно, практически не пересекаясь друг с другом. This is only my third exhibition in twenty years of working creatively as an artist (my first exhibition, was in 1993, when I was still at Art College, the second, in 2003, was in Pavel Kuznetsov’s Museum, Saratov). I have not had a solo exhibition for a while because it was my aim that my works should harmonise in their content and technique, and only now do I have sufficient paintings to allow this. <br />
An exhibition is the continuation of the creative work of an artist. The pictures will “talk” to the public only if they are carefully selected and combined, otherwise, they will behave like people who find themselves at an event and do not know each other – they will not talk. I believe that this time I have achieved this goal and people who come to the exhibition will be able to see and to “hear” my paintings. <br />
The title of the exhibition came to me spontaneously. As Delacroix wrote: <br />
“Beside the fact that the art of painting represents a part of the picture of nature, it also comprises an element of control and deliberate choice, in other words, the artist’s soul and his style”.<br />
I am not sure about the soul, but I am absolutely sure about the artist’s thoughts and feelings. Nature represents rich resources for reflecting the nature of global events, mood, and aspects of the subconscious. It would be strange for an artist not to use all that Nature can offer. <br />
In particular, I think the two paintings, “Sunset in a Village” and “Morning in a Village. Bulgaria” illustrate this I did not set out to represent the two nations, Russia and Bulgaria in these paintings. Rather, these pictures are an interpretation of my own feelings and thoughts evoked in me by the subjects. In “Sunset in a Village”– these are anxiety about the future, destruction, and sadness about losing something beautiful. In “Morning in a Village”, a feeling of inspiration, freshness and novelty, and the pleasant anticipation of the oncoming day, with a feeling of unease. These village themes helped me to express these thoughts and feelings.<br />
I invite everyone who can make it to Saratov, and I look forward to meeting you there. I will also try to publish photographs of the exhibition as soon as I can after the exhibition is open. The exhibition will close on March 31. <br />

ПРИРОДА, ПОСЛУШНАЯ МЫСЛИ И ЧУВСТВУ<br />

5 марта открывается моя персональная выставка в Доме работников искусств в Саратове.<br />
Это третья моя персональная выставка за 20 лет работы (первая выставка состоялась во время учебы в художественном училище в 1993-м году, вторая была в доме-музее павла Кузнецова в 2003-м году). Я долго не выставлялся сольно, потому что не было достаточной массы работ, из которой я мог отобрать картины, гармонирующие друг с другом по смыслу, по технике исполнения. А поскольку работы у меня разноплановые, теперь накопилось картин на несколько разных, можно сказать, неповторимых, выставок. Создание выставки — это продолжение творческого процесса художника. Чтобы картины «заговорили» со зрителем, их надо правильно сочетать в экспозиции, иначе они поведут себя, как незнакоцы, оказавшиеся в чужой компании: будут молчать:). Не эффективно также «забивать» экспозицию похожими работами, тогда они ведут себя как давно знакомые и похожие люди, которые уже все анекдоты друг другу рассказали, и поговорить им больше не о чем. Я думаю, в этот раз мне удалось достичь поставленной цели, и зрители смогут увидеть и «услышать» живопись.<br />
Совершенно спонтанно родилось и название выставки - «Природа, послушная мысли и чувству». Как писал Делакруа: "Помимо того, что составляет картину природы, она (живопись. - П. С.) включает в себя элемент контроля и сознательного выбора, то есть душу художника и свойственный ему стиль". Насчет души я уверенно говорить не могу, но насчет моих мыслей и чувств я ручаюсь. Природа — это богатый материал для того, чтобы передать и суть социальных явлений, и настроение, и то, что поднимается из глубин бессознательного, и глобальные коллективные процессы. Не воспользоваться таким материалом было бы для меня странно. Вот, например, картины «Закат в деревне» и «Утро в деревне. Болгария». Здесь нет противопоставления деревень из разных стран. По крайней мере, цели такой я не ставил. Россия не выражается в работе про закат, так как мы знаем и другую Россию. И Болгария, приятная, но небогатая и не слишком устроеная страна Европы, не антипод России. Эти местности были использованы для передачи ощущений. В работе с закатом — тревога о будущем, разрушение, печаль об утрате чего-то прекрасного. В работе с утром это вдохновение, легкость, свежесть, новизна и немного неустроенности, приятное ожидание будущего дня. Сюжеты в деревнях очень мне в этом помогли. <br />

Matisse is floating across my mind in the evening, and then I think that here, this is the best and the most outstanding what a man can create. But if I look at Matisse for long enough, I am getting tires of bright spots of colour, and in the end I get bored. <br />

All good artists inspire me from time to time. I am inspired by the means through which different artists reflect different atmosphere. Sometimes, I want to convey the same atmosphere in my picture, but trough my own means and ways. The "Autumn Day" was painted under the influence of Barbizon school. <br />

Художники создают произведения искусства. А что вдохновляет их на создание? Очень многое. И прежде всего огромное влияние оказывают великие произведения других художников. Мне всегда трудно ответить на вопрос, какой художник меня больше всего вдохновляет. Утром мне нравится одно, а вечером совсем другое. Утром я, например, вспоминаю романтичные, с легким флером поэзии произведения барбизонцев. А вечером перед внутренним взором встает Матисс, и я думаю - вот оно самое лучшее и блестящее, что вообще может быть создано человеком. Но если я долго смотрю на картины Матисса, яркие пятна надоедают, и в конце концов становится скучно. После этого я хочу видеть Вермеера и т.д.<br />
Все хорошие художники вдохновляют меня время от времени.<br />
Меня вдохновляет то, как художники передают состояние. Иногда мне хочется передать в своей картине это же состояние, но своими средствами. "Осенний день" написан под влиянием барбизонцев. Often people ask me the style of which artist I follow when creating a a painting such as "Landscape with Caramel Taste". I am not aware of an artist who does or did it in the same style. Of course, the idea itself has been used before and my style has some predecessors. There were some other artists before me whose artworks made the basis for my own style. Fraction of space and its fragmentation was used by many artists - such as Picasso, Filonov, Marc Shagal, Lentulov; but all of them were doing in their own way. The bottom line is that my own style is different from anything created before and does not follow the footsteps of any other artist. Every artist manipulates with space pursuing his own goals and uses his own methods and approaches.<br />
<br />
Lately, one of my admirers asked me an interesting question. In the window of the orange house in the background he spotted people. These people, according to him, were painted in such a way that they emerge vaguely in your memory, in your reminiscences, almost like ghosts. He also noticed that in many paintings done in the same manner as the "Landscape with Caramel Taste" the houses and trees appear as is someone tries to wake up the memories of some objects which were<br />
surrounding this person at a certain time. Indeed, in my pictures, the motive of reminiscences does take place. When I exhibited my works in Russia, I used to be told that the paintings contain memories, like the ones of someone's childhood. I started to scrutinize my landscape. Perhaps, those people were right, and memories are encapsulated in my artwork. Though while painting these pictures, I did not paint people deliberately, they were present in my thoughts only. <br />
<br />
This episode with the admirer's question reminded me an old story which happened to a well-know artist Krymov. Krymov was painting plain-air, and when he finished painting, he was approached by a fisherman. The fisherman looked at the painting and exclaimed: "Ah, you painted my boat as well!" The artist was really surprised, because he did not paint any boats in the picture. After having a closer look at his painting, he noticed the boat. His eyesight would not allow him to see the boat in the terrain. But the professionally correct and right correlations of colour and tone did the job - the boat was in the picture. <br />

Мне часто задают вопрос, стилю какого художника я следую, когда создаю работы, подобные "Пейзажу с карамельным вкусом". Я не знаю такого художника. Но на пустом месте ничего не происходит. Конечно, был кто-то раньше меня, чье творчество и послужил основой к созданию моего собственного стиля. Преломление пространства его дробление использовалось самыми разнообразыми художниками. Это Пикассо, Филонов, Марк Шагал, Лентулов, но все они делали это по-своему. И мой стиль в итоге не похож ни на одного из них. Каждый художник играет с пространством для своих особенных целей и использует свои авторские приемы.<br />
Еще один интересный вопрос недавно задал мне один почитатель. Он увидел на заднем плане в окне оранжевого дома людей. Эти люди, по его словам, изображены так, будто всплыли в памяти слабо и почти призрачно. Он также заметил, что во многих картинах, подобных "Пейзажу с карамельным вкусом", дома и деревья проявляются как будто некий человек пытается вспомнить объекты, которые некогда окружали его.<br />
В моих работах действительно присутствует мотив воспоминаний. Когда я показывал эти работы в России, то мне часто говорили, что в них как-будто заложены воспоминания из детства. Я начал всматриваться в свой пейзаж. Может быть они там действительно есть. Но в процессе работы над картиной я не писал людей, они присутствовали только в мыслях. Эта история с почитателем, чем-то напомнила давнюю историю, произошедшую с художником Крымовым. Он был на пленэре и когда закончил этюд, к нему подошел рыбак. Рыбак посмотрел на этюд и воскликнул: О, да ты и мою лодку нарисовал! Художник очень удивился, потому что никакой лодки не рисовал. Присмотревшись к своего наброску, он увидел и лодку. The artworks should sell, after all. Does it mean in this case, if the picture is sold the artist's soul is sold too? Do the tastes of the buyers influence what the artist paints? These are very difficult questions. Though I could share my feelings on the matter and I could share some of my observations related to this.<br />
Sometimes some artists live their own internal live, but this kind of artist is a "very specialized" representative of humanity. We all depend on the society; we observe what happens in the society and make our personal and private conclusions based on our observations.<br />
Artworks are the result of these observations. An artwork may contradict the tastes of some members of public, while flatter the tastes and the cultural beliefs of others. But even if the taste of the public requires to be vulgar and non-aesthetic, the artist who can draw and paint will not be mislead by the crowd's tastes. Every artist is looking for his own audience, and few manage to please the majority of public.<br />
Many of my artworks are sold abroad, outside of Russia, and all of them were sold by some middle-men. I have no idea how my American, Bulgarian or French collectors look like. Middlemen never talk about their customers, so there was no direct contact between myself and the artist and those who buy my art. I though before that I knew what style a French or a British customer would prefer, but now everything changed: as it tirns out, the French like not only decorative patterns, but also realism! :-) Preferences, likes and dislikes are different everywhere.<br />

Многие художники и любители живописи задаются вопросом: Должен ли художник писать только для души? Ведь в конце концов произведение искусства должно быть продано. Означает ли при этом, что если картина продана, значит продана душа? Влияют ли вкусы покупателей на творчество художника? Все это очень сложные вопросы. Но я могу поделится своими чувствами и частью своих наблюдений. Иногда художники живут своей внутренней жизнью, но чаще всего это очень социализированные представители человечества. Мы зависим от общества, мы живем в обществе, мы наблюдаем за обществом, но выдаем только свои личные выводы из своих наблюдений. И результатом этих выводов становится картина. Эта картина может противоречить вкусам одних зрителей и потакать вкусам и культурным воззрениям других. Но даже если вкус зрителей требует быть неэстетичным, художник, умеющий рисовать, не пойдет на поводу у толпы. Каждый ищет своего собственного зрителя и ценителя. Не многим удается понравится большинству. <br />
Мои работы, вывезенные за пределы России, были куплены через посредников. Я не знаю, как выглядит мой американский коллекционер, болгарский, французский и т.д. Посредники никогда не рассказывают о клиентах, что не было прямого контакта между мной и покупателем. Раньше я думал, что я знал, какой стиль предпочитает французский, какой стиль в Англии, но теперь все изменилось: французы любят не только декоративные картины, но и реализм:) Но предпочтения везде разные. Например,для выставок в России я делаю картины как "Банновские овраги" (эта работа прошла строгую комиссию из академиков на двух престижных выставках)<br />
"Вид на яхты" - это, что люблю я, и что любят мои зрители и покупатели.<br />
А вот картины, подобные "Синей ночи, белому псу" я делаю пока только для себя. At a first glance, this is a nice lyrical picture. When scrutinizing the picture, the spectator will notice that through usual objects I show social problems, and the objects themselves get a new philosophical interpretation which is easily recognizable by the contemporary people. The sheep are positioned along the road in the shape if a dollar sign. The line of rams can be considered as a queue (in real life it was the queue to the watering place). This picture is also a social metaphor. Life looks very different depending on the point of view. This artwork is not one of usual provocative pictures. It demonstrates how unpredictably symbolic things and events in our surrounding world can be. The ram that looks at us can also be considered as a metaphor: only one person out of a hundred can be different from the rest of "the sheep". The symbols are simple, but there is no one single interpretation of them. Some observers decided that I depicted the Russian citizens; others think that from now on, Americans will never give me even a tourist visa :-); yet another group holds to the opinion that this is a direty por picture. I like the variety of opinions, because this means that the picture does not leave the spectators indifferent. According to the author, Coons chose the image of clean shaved trader with an attaché case in his hand; he is no different from his new clients. Jean Claire is emotional. He thinks that degradation in particular gave artists the mimicry abilities. Jean Claire makes an ironic note that the drawback of painting or sculpture was the fact that they are not entertaining. This is why so far art has not been a part of “festive” culture that seems to be the ideal of our civilization. But Versailles accepted Takasi Murakami, Louver bought the jesters and Palazzo Grassi - Jeff Coons , in other words, the museums started to specialise in combining “common culture” and “noble culture”. This is the enjoyment of becoming vulgar, as Marseille Proust would say, snobbery of the hoodies which is characteristic of the declining elites of decadence era.

<br />So, according to Jean Claire and many more of my colleagues, the decadence has come, because Coons costs so much. I am very tempted to agree with them, if not some obstacles. I will name a few most significant ones.

<br />As an example, let’s have a look at the art of Ancient Egypt. The ancient Egyptians had the knowledge of three dimensions, and they could have demonstrated it not in sculpture only. Instead, they were staying within the concept that if an artist shows three dimensions on a two-dimensional surface, he is lying to the observer, because in the reality the image on the two-dimensional surface will also be two-dimensional. Two-dimensional on two-dimensional is the truth, three-dimensional on two-dimensional is a lie.

<br />Icon painters were also following this two-dimensional principle for a long time. Sometimes, we can notice that some figures are slightly distorted. Is this how the artists saw people? Did they degrade so much that they could not depict three dimensions? Of course, not. This is how they were reflecting some movement in time; they were ascribing special spiritual meaning to the “flat” image. In modern terms, this would be called a concept.

<br />Do we look upon three-dimensional images in our days as being false, are we offended when we see a three-dimensional picture and demand that the artist should be thrown at with rotten tomatoes? No, we don’t. Two-dimensional or three-dimensional – is this the sign of decadence? We are not concerned with this any more. We will not even look into all those boring details and accusations in being formal and other dreadful sins referred to in the arguments that took place in the beginning of the XX century. This became history already.

<br />We have a different reason to argue about – the proportion of the quality and price of artworks. Why some paintings (at times completely boring and weak) cost so much? It is because the game has extended itself beyond the canvas and other materials. Now the players are not only the gallery owners and artists, but also a small bunch of customers – buyers, a few dozens of the largest investors. In a way, these investors are artists themselves, they feel themselves as artists. This game is not thoughtless, and highly technical. Only selected, chosen people are playing this game, the artworks play the same role as paints and brushed for an artist - their role is to create an illusion of actions, emotions, and, finally, of the time and being filled in with profound sense. Sometimes, they are even used to support some political ambitions, but they are not the goal in themselves. And what about all the rest of the artists and their customers? The games here are completely different. The biggest one is the imitation of the “investors”. There are a lot of doubts and disappointments in this game, besides it is a precarious pleasure. Particularly, if the imitator is convinced that the key element if the artwork itself and its value. As a matter of fact, this game can give you a lot of pleasurable moments, if the spectator values his visual pleasure above all, as well as other factors that make sense for him only: emotions, reminiscences, thought, etc.

Поводом для размышлений на эту тему стали многочисленные дискуссии о том, почему цветные пятна на холсте стоят дороже, чем скажем технически более сложные, но не менее одухотворенные произведения искусства. <br />Жан Клер заявил в своей статье, что Джефф Кунс стал самым дорогим художником мира в результате изменений на арт-рынке, который некогда регулировался тонкой игрой между руководителями галерей, с одной стороны, и знатоками искусства, с другой, а теперь стал машиной крупной финансовой спекуляции в кругу двух-трех галерей, одного аукционного дома и узкой публики нуворишей. По мнению автора, Кунс выбрал себе имидж свежевыбритого трейдера с дипломатом в руке, он ничем не отличается от своей новой публики. Жан Клер эмоционален. Он считает, что именно вырождение наделило художника способностью к мимикрии.

<br />Жан Клер иронично подмечает, что недостатком живописи или скульптуры было то, что они не развлекательны. Поэтому изобразительное искусство до сих пор не попадало в сферу <<праздничной>> культуры, которая нашей цивилизации представляется совершенством. <br />Например, искусство древнего Египта. Египтяне обладали знанием о трехмерности и могли бы ее изобразить не только в скульптуре, но придерживались следующей концепции: Если на двухмерной плоскости художник изображает трехмерность - он лжет зрителю, так как на двухмерной плоскости можно изобразить только двухмерный объект. Двухмерное на двухмерном - это истина, трехмерное на двухмерном - это ложь.

<br />Создатели икон также долгое время придерживались двухмерности. Иногда мы видим слегка искаженные человеческие фигуры. Авторы так видели людей? Так деградировали, что не могли изобразить трехмерность? Конечно, нет. Так они изображали в двухмерном пространстве некое движение во времени и придавали особое духовное значение плоскому изображению. Сегодня это назвали бы концепцией.

<br />Рассматриваем ли мы сейчас трехмерность как ложь, оскорбляемся ли, когда видим трехмерную картину, требуем ли закидать автора гнилыми помидорами? Нет. Двухмерность или трехмерность - признак декаданса? Нас это уже не волнует. Мы даже не будем нудно и подробно разбирать все споры и обвинения начала XX века в формализме и прочих страшных вещах. Это уже
<br />история. У нас другой повод для споров - соотношение качества и стоимости искусства. Почему за некоторые произведения (иногда совершенно скучные и слабые) платят так много. Потому что игра вышла за пределы холста и других материалов. Теперь игроками стали не только галеристы и художники, но и узкий круг покупателей - несколько дюжин самых крупных инвесторов. В каком-то смысле эти инвесторы сами являются художниками, чувствуют себя художниками. Эта игра не лишена
<br />мысли и высоко технична. В этой игре участвуют только избранные, а художественные произведения играют ту же роль, какую краски и кисти для художника - они предназначены для создания иллюзии действий, эмоций и, наконец, наполненного высоким смыслом времени-бытия, иногда предназначены даже для поддержки политических амбиций, но сами не являются целью.

<br />А как же остальные художники и их покупатели? Здесь совсем другие игры. Основная - подражание "инвесторам". На этом пути много сомнений, разочарований и удовольствие сомнительное. Особенно, если "подражатель" уверен, что главное - это само произведение и его ценность. The artist shrinks so that it would be more<br />convenient to move around in his limited barrel. The signs of it are<br />repetitions, one and the same solutions, bizarre discussions and<br />personal degradation.<br /><br />Goldfish can serve as an example. If they are placed into a big pond,<br />fed well, they grow into big, gracious and beautiful fish. They can be<br />seen often in Japanese gardens, and they are adorable. But if a<br />goldfish is placed into a small fish tank, it will be a small fish to<br />amuse its owners. If an artist wants to be a small fish in a fish<br />tank, he has the right of choice. No public opinion can make an artist<br />to favour the choice of a fish tank. Один из способов: ребенка помещали в бочку, чтобы тело не могло расти нормально и получался урод. <br />Когда художник начинает помещать себя в творческие рамки, то в результате три варианта развития событий: 1. Художник лишается возможности нормально расти и получает уродливый результат.<br />2. Что не вмещается в эту бочку, начинает вылазить, это обрезается при помощи арт-диллеров, критиков, общественного мнения. <br />3. Художник усыхает, чтобы было удобнее шевелиться в своей ограниченной бочке. Признак: повторы, штампы, нелепые разговоры. деградация личности.<br />Вот например, золотые рыбки. Если их помещают в большой водоем, соответственно кормят, то они вырастают большими, грациозными и красивыми рыбами. Их часто можно увидеть в японских садах, они вызывают восхищение. Но если золотую рыбку поместить с маленький аквариум, то это будет маленькая рыбка на потеху владельцам. если художник хочет быть таким, он имеет право сделать свой выбор. Но никакое общественное мнение не может заставить художника сделать выбор в пользу аквариума. И акулой в формальдегиде он тоже имеет право не быть!<br />Художник не теряет себя вместе с расширением своего кругозора и своих возможностей в творчестве, как это принято думать. Так же как человек, не изуродованный бочкой копрачикосов, не теряет своих возможностей.
