Summer day in Varna, painting oil on canvas

Art Prints
The history of this painting started in 2009, when internet
communication with a Bulgarian artist Lchzar Radov grew into
friendship. Lchezar invited me to Bulgaria for a painting trip and
organized an exhibition in five cities in Bulgaria.

There are plenty of beautiful picturesque places in Bulgaria. We
worked for two weeks from dawn till sunset. It was a wonderful time.

The first free day occurred only after the exhibition opened in Varna.
We were walking along a boulevard in the centre of Varna when I saw
this building. It struck my imagination. The atmosphere of that day
and the light were important. The building reminded me of a cake:
festive, light and visually sweet. Everything around me was full of
joy. It was a balanced, quiet and harmonious feeling of joy rather
than an enormous excitement. I had to capture this unique moment. I
did it when I came back home to Russia.

To achieve this objective, I referred to the experience of the
Impressionists, though I did not even try to replicate their
techniques in full. If you look back too often, you can turn into a
stone.

Even an inexperienced observer will not take "Summer Day in Varna"
for an artwork of the Impressionists (of the XIX - beginning of the XX
century). I paid special attention to the correlation of light and
colour. The material form of objects, their dimensions and other
elements of their existence are created by such an ephemeral thing as
the effects of light. In other words, I painted light and achieved
effect of three-dimensional buildings, quite tangible pavement, filled
the street in with people...

At the same time, as opposed to the Impressionists, I did not apply
clear pigment brush strokes. My colours are mixed.

It was a real pleasure to work on "Summer Day in Varna". It does not
have a complicated intellectual subject which could be told as a
story. In this painting I emphasised the technique which enables to
communicate emotions and make the beholder to perceive the artwork not
through their intellect, but through their emotions. I would like the
observer to recall how the sunshine tenderly touches their skin, the
sigh of the slightly humid air for a seaside town, thesound of leaves
rustling and the rhythm of different languages.

Insight in painting/

Art Prints
MORE IMAGES HERE
In my avant-garde compositions I "decompose" the world into its
components and then, like out of mosaic, put it back together again.
Though the houses are still houses, and trees are trees, the world
looks different. This approach gives an opportunity to accentuate
attention on different moments of life, look at the world from a
different point. The impressions of the real world, such as coolness,
heat, sunshine or a reminiscence of some familiar places are
irrelevant here. I render my insight of the world, I look through the
objects. Such things as perspective, horizon line, correlation between
the size of the objects are not important for the insight. This
approach allows to show the nature of the connections between the
objects of this world. None of the objects depicted in these artworks
is a particular object of the existing world, nor does it exist in the
real world. I paint the ideas about objects, notions of objects. It
is the symbolic meaning of the depicted objects that comes forward;
their role is to evoke certain subconscious reactions and feelings
(different in different people).
For example, "the Urban Street" was painted after my own childhood
drawing. The drawing itself was done in realistic manner, and there is
little left of it in this painting. I rendered my childhood ideas
about this street, the way I perceived it. But this is my vision. The
beholder can see there something different. We can call this manner
any way we like: "analytical painting", cubo-futurism, decorative
painting, or painting with "prismatic effect". I do not know how to
call this.

World of eventuality/

Sell Art Online
The picture is called "Settlement", though the settlement itself takes
an insignificant part of the canvas. This option of composition was
intentional. It is night, everyone is asleep in the settlement, but
the elements roar and storm around the settlement, things that could
become crucial are happening. Nobody knows what will happen in the
next moment. Will the elements bear down on the settlement; will its
peaceful existence and stability be interrupted by them? Or will the
elements pass by, and the inhabitants when they wake up in the morning
will not know anything about the night's danger, they will have their
breakfast and leave for work? Possibly, the power of these elements
will not be enough to overcome the fortifications of the walls?
Anything is possible in the world of eventuality. And yet for now the
settlement's residents are asleep and do not care about the real
nightmares that threaten them.

On a pedestal. Symbolic value/

Photography Prints

The goat climbed on the ruins of the farmhouse, and the sheep quietly bowed their heads and nibbling the grass. In this work, there is sadness for the old life and traditions, and with it also the joy eternally renewed life in the form of a green tree, and cheerful animals:) Life is fickle. But this is just one opinion, one of the values.

Another.
If you admire, fulfill all your requirements, follow your wishes, should think: you're really so cool and you carry all the happiness, or you're just a goat among the sheep.

Another. What do you mean?

All Passions In The Past

A very long time ago, when the continental plateaus were still
travelling and volcanoes erupted, this bank of the Volga was the ocean
bottom. It was inhabited by the ancient reptiles. Later the ocean
dried out, revealing the bottom of the ocean, and the remains of the
dinosaurs and other amazing ancient animals became the scientific
evidence of life on Earth. In middle ages, it was also a very busy
place. The Silk road and the Salt road went here, the merchants were
carrying valuable goods. In later times, there was a camp place for
barge haulers, the hired labour in Russia in XVI - the end of XIX
century), they would have a stop here to have rest and go to the banya
(the Russian type of sauna, this is where the name of the place comes
from - Bannovka). In this area the river pirates were active under the
leadership of Stepan Razin. Nearby, there is a place called "the
Prison". Stepan Razin's gang would herd merchants' boats into this
secret place. The boatmen would jump ashore in hope to find rescue,
but they would slide down the wet grass straight into the hands of the
pirates. There was no escape. Some found their death there, others
were sold into slavery. As the legend says, somewhere in this area
Stepan Razin's hoard was buried still unfound.
In our days, it is very quiet here; there are only a few fishermen's
boats on the bank. Yet the lonely crags still remember the past.
